HENDERSON — After falling 6-1 against Grace Christian in their season opener on Sept. 15, Kerr-Vance Academy’s soccer team bounced back with a commanding 6-1 victory of their own against Bradford Academy on Monday.

Junior Richard Murieto scored the first goal of the game on a header that was assisted by senior Coleman Merritt, while senior Joel Lewis obtained KVA’s second goal on a mishandled throw-in by the Bradford Academy goalkeeper.

Bradford Academy managed to sneak a goal past KVA’s defense to cut their opponent’s advantage in half, but Spartans senior Michael Holtzman concluded the first half for his team with a goal on a penalty kick to give KVA a 3-1 lead.

Lewis ended up getting a hat trick for KVA by scoring the team’s next two goals, while Merritt added an additional goal near the end of the game.

Although Bradford Academy outshot KVA 33-22, junior goalkeeper Shane Musselman was efficient in halting Bradford’s offensive attack, as he ended his afternoon with 14 total saves.

KVA will return to action on Thursday when they host Neuse Christian at 4:30 p.m.
