HENDERSON — Susan Boyd Fitts departed this life Sunday, Oct. 11, 2020, in Henderson after a brief illness. She was born Dec. 9, 1931, to the late Ernest Boyd and Elsie Gregory Boyd in Vance County. She was the fourth of seven children.
She attended Central Grade School, Henderson Institute, and Vance Granville Community College. She worked as a teacher at Green Glow Daycare Center in Henderson until she retired.
She was married to the late Andrew Douglas Fitts Sr. Born of this marriage were two children, Andrea Juanita and the late Andrew Douglas Jr.
As a child, Susan accepted Christ and began her faith walk at KelserTemple A.M.E Zion Church in Henderson. She sang in the gospel choir, and she served as a deaconess following in the footsteps of her mother and sisters. She also attended St. Andrews Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Douglas Fitts Sr; son, Andrew Douglas Fitts Jr.; grandson, Allan Aiken; sisters, Ethel Terry, Doris Boyd and Eula Boyd; brothers, Ernest Boyd, Geraldine Harrelson, and John Henry Heyward.
Surviving is her daughter; Andrea J. Carson; brother, William Boyd; and stepdaughter, Linda Foster.
A viewing will be Thursday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at E.C. Terry’s Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at E.C. Terry’s Funeral Chapel with restricted attendance with a facemask. Interment will be at Sunset Gardens.
