KITTRELL — Mickey Parnell, 70, of U.S. 1 South, died Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at his home. Born in Randolph County on June 11, 1950, he was the son of the late Joe Parnell and Iris Graves Parnell.

Mickey was formerly employed with the Vance County Sheriff’s Office and retired from East Coast Drilling and Blasting in Wake Forest. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of the Vietnam Veterans Motorcycle Club.

A memorial service with military honors will be held Saturday, May 1, at 2 p.m. at South Henderson Church of God by the Rev. Gary Harper and the Rev. Mark Bateman.

He is survived by his wife, Myra Stevenson Parnell of the home; his daughter, Brooke Parnell of Asheboro; his son, Brent Parnell of Greensboro; two sisters, Jo Ann P. Braxton of Ramseur and Sharon P. Richardson of Shallotte; a brother, Eddie Parnell of Ramseur; and two grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a stepson, Scottie Stevenson.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 p.m. to 1:50 p.m. at the church and other times at the home.
