OXFORD — Marshall Bernard Floyd Jr., 78, of Oxford, North Carolina, died Jan. 3, 2022. He was the oldest son of the late Marshall Bernard Floyd Sr. and Frances Newton Floyd.

Mr. Floyd served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968 and worked for the telephone company in Oxford his entire career. He treasured old-time string music and the many friends he and Charlotte met through music over the years. Marshall also enjoyed canoeing, particularly down the Tar River, and was passionate about conservation. He was a dedicated member of Peace’s Chapel Baptist Church.

Marshall was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Charlotte Catlett Floyd. He is survived by his brother, Ricky Floyd (Bonnie) of Oxford, North Carolina; daughters, Anna Averette (Ben) of Wake Forest, Sarah Hicks (Thomas) of Winterville, North Carolina, and Leah Roberts (John) of Newport, North Carolina; grandchildren John Marshall and Claire Roberts and Charles Averette; and niece, nephews and many cousins.

A memorial service to honor his memory will be held at Peace’s Chapel Baptist Church on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2022, at 11 a.m., conducted by Pastor David Richardson and the Rev. Frank Sossamon.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the fellowship hall of the church.

Due to COVID-19 concerns, those planning to attend the service are asked to adhere to all CDC guidelines by wearing a face covering of some sort and to practice social distancing.
