KITTRELL — Margaret Cummings “Margie” Dickerson, 92, of Kittrell, North Carolina, died Friday, Dec. 24, 2021, at her home.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of the late Edward Joseph Cummings Sr. and Mary Anna Keenan Cummings. She was the widow of Roy Dickerson. She was of the Catholic faith, but practiced Christianity.
“Margie” was retired from the Vance County Sheriff’s Office, where she achieved the rank of chief jailer. She was the first woman in Vance County to be appointed the rank of chief jailer at the Vance County Jail, during the term of the late Sheriff Tommy McGhee.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, Dec. 30, 2021, at 2 p.m. in the Sossamon Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Frank Sossamon. Burial will follow at Rehoboth United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Price and Joni Johannes (Gary); four grandchildren, Brian Hooper, Kristin Johannes, Craig Johannes and Eric Johannes; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward Joseph Cummings Jr. and James Byrnes.
The family will receive friends on Thursday at Sossamon Funeral Home from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Serving as pallbearers will be members of the Vance County Sheriff’s Office.
