HENDERSON — Kenneth Louis “Ken” Giard Sr., 80, of Henderson, died Monday, Dec. 28, 2020, at his home.
Born March 31, 1940, in Franklin County, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Margaret Lawlor Giard and Edward Giard.
Prior to his retirement, Ken was the owner and operator of Lake Drive Auto Parts and of Omega Cleaning Products, both located in Henderson. He was a longtime member of St. James Catholic Church, where he served as a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also an active member of the fraternal organizations The Elks Lodge and the Loyal Order of the Moose. Ken is remembered for his love of family, friends, community and the music of Elvis Presley.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 2, 2021, at 11 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, 3275 U.S. 158 Bypass, Henderson, conducted by the Rev. Rafael Leon-Valencia. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church’s fellowship hall.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Gail Cowan Giard; two daughters, Ellen Giard Rogers of Dover, Ohio, and Rebekah Giard Cahoon of Manteo; one son, Kenneth “Kenny” L. Giard Jr. of Greensboro; four grandchildren, Rylan Rogers, Isabelle and Eleanor Giard, and Harper Gray Cahoon; two sons-in-law, Tracy Rogers and Jonathan Cahoon; and one daughter-in-law, Lauren Giard.
In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Moore, and his two brothers, Edward Giard and Donnie Giard.
