KITTRELL — James Elton Deans Sr., 78, a resident of the Bobbitt community, died Sunday, April 18, 2021, at Maria Parham Health.

Born on Dec. 23, 1942, in Nash County, he was the son of the late Lonnie Elton Deans and Ruby Wall Deans. James was a retired lieutenant with the Vance County Sheriff’s Office. He was a member of Plank Chapel United Methodist Church, where he was active in the Methodist Men.

A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at 3 p.m. at Plank Chapel United Methodist Church by Dr. Carolyn Roy.

He is survived by his wife, Kay Williams Deans of the home; one son, James Elton Deans Jr. (Donna) of Henderson; two daughters, Shannon Franks (Gary) of Garner and Pam Jackson (Gavin) of Henderson; two sisters, Elizabeth Dickerson (Curtis) and Nancy Brantley (Harold) of Bailey; two brothers, Marvin Deans (Elizabeth) and Rondy Deans (Catherine) of Bailey; sister-in-law, Brenda Deans of Nashville; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Starlon Deans.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday following the service in the Fellowship Hall at Plank Chapel United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to UMCOR, 458 Ponce De Leon Ave., NE, Atlanta, GA 30308.

Those attending the service and visitation are asked to wear appropriate face coverings and practice social distancing.
