HENDERSON — James Brent Montgomery, 50, of Hedrick Drive, died Monday, March 15, 2021, at UNC Hospitals. Born in Guilford County on July 8, 1970, he was the son of James Larry Montgomery and Anne Cape Montgomery of Henderson.

Brent was a Master Trooper (C440) serving with Troop C, in District 4, encompassing Vance, Warren and Franklin counties, for 15 years. After graduating from 114 Basic School, he was stationed in District 4 and quickly became a crucial part of Troop C.

In addition to law enforcement, his duties included him being in charge of the School of Safety Program and conducting background checks for new applicants coming to District 4. As a Master Trooper, he was a field training officer (FTO) and traffic crash instructor and Taser instructor at the Highway Patrol Training Center. Brent executed all of his responsibilities faithfully and will be forever remembered by the N.C. State Highway Patrol. He also was an active member of South Henderson Church of God, where he served on the Security Team. He was a valuable member of our community and will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at South Henderson Church of God by the Revs. Gary Harper, Mark Bateman, Will Breedlove and Gary Brummitt. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Heather Johnson Montgomery of the home; his daughter, Emma Annalice Montgomery of the home; two sons, James Brent “Jabe” Montgomery II and Collin Bryce Montgomery; two brothers, Bryan Todd Montgomery and Blake Ross Montgomery, both of Henderson; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Alvin and Alice Johnson of Henderson; and many loving nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday from 12:30 p.m. until 2:50 p.m. at South Henderson Church of God.

Serving as active pallbearers will be members of the NCSHP Honor Guard. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Matt White, Joel Creech, Randy Owen, Jerry Spraggins, Starr Faulkner, Keith Pendergrass, Jeff Tate, Doyle Carpunky, Allen Ellis, Michael Breedlove, Dale Reese, Kevin Rooker, Chris Roberson, Michael Marshburn, Matt Jackson and District 4 Troop C.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to South Henderson Church of God Youth Group, 125 J.P. Taylor Road, Henderson, NC 27537.
