HENDERSON — Mr. George Robinson, 74, was born in Henderson on July 30, 1946. He entered into eternal rest on Jan. 2, 2021, at Mariah Parham Health. He was the son of the late James and Pauline Robinson.
George joined Spring Street Baptist Church at a young age. He left North Carolina at the age of 18 and moved to Orangeburg, New York, but served as a deacon, choir member and van driver.
While in Orangeburg, he was employed with Rockland State Hospital. Shortly after accepting this position, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and the Vietnam War. He served on active duty for three years and remained in the Reserves until he retired. After returning from his tour of active duty, he returned to Rockland, where he worked for the next 40 years.
During those years George became a Mason and a faithful member and leader in multiple chapters and lodges.
George was preceded in death by four brothers, James, Eugene, Willie Lee, and Donald Robinson; one sister, Felicia Robinson-Hamilton; and his paternal grandparents, John and Katie B. Harris.
George leaves to cherish his memory one son, James Thomas Robinson of Hollis Queens, New York; three daughters, Candis Snell Robinson and Sharhonda Snell of Santee, South Carolina, and Kisha Snell-Washington of Holly Hill, South Carolina; two grandchildren, Mykambria Snell and Armani White; two great-grandchildren, London and Logan Brown; one godson, Rennie Eanes of Pittsboro; two sisters, Paulette Robinson-Jones and Pearl Iris Robinson-Glover, both of Henderson; his best friend, Willie Trottman of Spring Valley, New York; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Graveside service will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Blacknall Cemetery. A viewing will be held Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. at E.C. Terry’s Funeral Chapel.
