WARRENTON — The Warren County Health Department will begin vaccinating anyone who’s age 75 and above the week of Jan. 19, and is taking reservations from those who want the first of the two-shot series to protect themselves from COVID-19.
Those eligible to get the vaccine in this round can call the Warren department at 252-257-1185 to make an appointment, officials said.
Up to now, Warren County Health, like its counterparts elsewhere in the region, has focused on getting the vaccine to frontline health care workers involved in treating COVID-19 patients, along with the staff and residents of long-term care facilities.
Its move to begin the next phase of the vaccination program follows parallel decisions by the Granville Health System and Granville-Vance Public Health to start immunizing the elderly, those most at risk from a severe case of the infection.
N.C. Department of Health and Human Services figures indicate that as of Jan. 8, 124 residents of Warren County had received their first dose of the vaccine. Ten had received the second shot that brings the vaccine to full effectiveness.
In Vance County, 404 residents had received their first dose and 22 had completed the two-shot series, DHHS reported.
Granville County had seen 984 residents get the first dose and 82 complete the series. DHHS reported that 644 resident of Franklin County had gotten the first shot and 34 had received the second.
Those figures don’t include any data on the doses allotted specifically for residents and staff of long-term care facilities, as the federal government is handling those directly through a contract with the CVS and Walgreens drugstore chains.
DHHS officials said the two chains have administered 23,965 out of the 165,900 doses — about 14.4% — they’ve been allotted for long-term care facilities.
Warren County officials said they continue to urge people to continue practicing the “3 Ws” — wearing a mask, waiting 6 feet apart and washing your hands frequently — to help control the spread of the disease.
