HENDERSON — The year’s first homicide in Henderson and Vance County claimed the life of 18-year-old Antonio Williams Jr. on Monday.
Police Chief Marcus Barrow said detectives believe Williams was shot near the corner of Wester Avenue and East Winder Street.
But police learned of the incident after officers were summoned to Maria Parham Health’s emergency department because a person was being treated there for a gunshot wound.
When they got there, they were told that Williams had arrived in a private vehicle, and that the people who’d brought him to the hospital had already left.
Williams died shortly afterward, Barrow said.
Detectives back-tracked the incident to the Wester/East Winder area with “the community’s assistance” as they went about questioning people about the incident, Barrow said.
They are now looking for the vehicle they think Williams was in, a dark gray 2016 Kia Optima, with North Carolina license plate HLZ-4675.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact Henderson-Vance Crime Stoppers at 252- 492-1925, use the P3 app, call the Henderson Police Department at 252-438-4141, or get in touch with the department through Facebook or Instagram.
