HENDERSON — Vance County Sheriff’s Office deputies have arrested and charged a man with first-degree murder in connection with a shooting that happened in the Williamsboro area on Aug. 27.

Hykeem Henderson was held in the Vance County Jail without bond following his arrest on Thursday, Sheriff Curtis Brame said.

Henderson is accused of shooting and killing Trevon Wynn, 25, in an incident that happened on Stagecoach Road.

A 911 call summoned deputies to a home on Crowder Lane, which is just off Stagecoach Road, because a person had been shot. They found Wynn in the back seat of a 2011 Mitsubishi. He had a gunshot wound to the chest and died at the scene.

Brame had previously said investigators believe someone fired at the Mitsubishi as it traveled west on Stagecoach Road after turning off N.C. 39.

N.C. Department of Public Safety records indicate that Henderson, 30, served nearly eight months in prison in 2015 and 2016 after being convicted of common-law robbery and felony breaking and entering.

Brame said deputies’ investigation of the case continues.

Investigators have asked anyone with information related to the incident to call the county 911 center or the Vance County Sheriff’s Office at 252-738-2200.
