Expansion dollars

U.S. Rep. David Price (left), D-4th, joined Henderson Mayor Eddie Ellington (center), Oxford Mayor Jackie Sergent and other local officials on a Thursday tour of the Kerr Lake Regional Water System’s treatment plant near Kerr Lake. Plant manager Steve Gupton (right) conducted the tour. Price and U.S. Rep. G.K. Butterfield, D-1st, have joined forces in an attempt to land $3.5 million in federal funding to help pay for a $66 million expansion of the plant that will nearly double its treatment capacity. Henderson officials, the system’s managing partners, say they hope work on the project can begin in 2022. Price said he’s “confident” the appropriation will make it into bills likely to emerge from Congress at the end of the year.
