HENDERSON — Vance County Sheriff’s Office deputies have arrested a second man in connection with a fatal shooting on Aug. 27 in the Williamsboro area.

David Lee Chavis Jr., 32, is being held in the Vance County Jail and faces a charge of first-degree murder in connection with the death of Trevon Wynn, Sheriff Curtis Brame said, adding that no bond has been set.

Brame also said the investigation into the case is continuing.

It began after a 911 call summoned authorities to a home on Crowder Lane, in the Stagecoach Road area, early in the evening of Aug. 27.

There they found Wynn, 27, lying in the back seat of a 2011 Mitsubishi. He had a single gunshot wound to the chest and died at the scene.

Brame and his staff have said investigators believe that Wynn was a passenger in the Mitsubishi, and that someone fired into it as the vehicle traveled west on Stagecoach Road.

Deputies on Sept. 2 arrested Hykeem Henderson, 30, and charged him with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting.

N.C. Department of Public Safety records indicated that Henderson had convictions on charges of common-law robbery and felony breaking and entering on his record. Its database showed no record for Chavis Jr.

Investigators have asked anyone with information related to the incident to call the county 911 center or the Vance County Sheriff’s Office at 252-738-2200.
