LOUISBURG — The Tar River Land Conservancy is seeking applications for a 12-week Stewardship Internship during the summer of 2021.

This internship will provide extensive experience working with a regionally-based land trust.

TRLC preserves the natural and cultural resources of the Upper Tar River Basin and surrounding areas by working with private landowners, public agencies and others to protect rural land, riparian corridors and ensure clean water.

Since its founding in 2000, the land trust has protected more 22,000 acres of land through outright property acquisitions and permanent conservation easements.

TRLC expects to hire two people for its 2021 summer internship.

Internship duties will include onsite inspections of conservation properties, preparing monitoring reports, communicating with property owners, coordinating with partner agencies, and helping with land management tasks such as trail building and property boundary marking.

Interns will work with volunteers to complete some field projects.

The internship will require travel throughout the eight-county region served by Tar River Land Conservancy: Edgecombe, Franklin, Granville, Halifax, Nash, Person, Vance and Warren counties.

Applicants must support the conservation of private working landscapes and significant natural and cultural resources using conservation easements and other tools.

Applicants should hold a degree — or have made substantial progress towards a degree — in natural resources management, conservation, forestry, agriculture, wildlife management or a related discipline.

The stewardship intern will be paid $13 an hour.

Start and end dates of the internship are negotiable.

The intern is responsible for finding local housing during the internship.

The intern must comply with federal, state and local guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19 during the internship, which will include but not be limited to screening for COVID-19, wearing of protective gear, and following social-distancing requirements.
