THE CREATIVE LIFELONG LEARNING PROGRAM of Granville County Senior Services is re-introducing programs for spring, and is gradually moving to in-person class offerings at the Granville County Senior Center in Oxford. Upcoming classes include Beginning Quilting (for men and women) through May 10, Tai Chi (Tuesdays at the Granville Athletic Park), a “Pinch Pot” Workshop (April 30 and May 7) and “Eat Smart, Move More” (Wednesdays through May 26). Community awareness programs such as the History of the Masonic Home for Children at Oxford (April 19, facilitated by MHCO Administrator Kevin Otis), and a “Look Back” at Granville County History (June 7, with local author Lewis Bowling) are also offered, as well as weekly interest groups such as “North Carolina, Our Home” (monthly) and “Games, Anyone” (Wednesdays). MEDICAID MANAGED CARE, The Vance County Department of Social Services invites the community to come out to a drive-thru Medicaid Managed Care informational session hosted at 350 Ruin Creek Road, Henderson. Sessions will occur on May 7 at 10 a.m. to noon and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Members of the community can have questions answered and obtain informational packets to assist with enrolling in a Medicaid Managed Care plan. PAPER SHRED, The Lake Gaston Association will sponsor its Seventh Annual Community Paper Shred on Saturday, May 8, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. The collection will be accomplished in the lower parking area at the Roanoke-Wildwood Volunteer Fire Department at 790 Lizard Creek Road The service is free to the public but contributions will be gratefully accepted. Items to be shredded can include any old paper records; staples and paper clips need not be removed, but please no three-ring binders or heavy metal clamps. We can accept any amounts of paper for shredding that can be processed in the time period. The truck-mounted shredder consumes about 10 book boxes/cases of paper every 8 minutes. No boxes, no computer memory discs or thumb drives can go in the shredder. People can stand and watch while the paper is shredded.
