INFRASTRUCTURE, Beginning Thursday, May 6, construction will begin in Oxford at the traffic circle site at the intersection of Main and Spring streets. A traffic-flow map will be available on the city’s website under “Infrastructure Improvement Initiative” to help with traffic redirection. MEDICAID MANAGED CARE, The Vance County Department of Social Services invites the community to come out to a drive-thru Medicaid Managed Care informational session hosted at 350 Ruin Creek Road, Henderson. Sessions will occur on May 7 at 10 a.m. to noon and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Members of the community can have questions answered and obtain informational packets to assist with enrolling in a Medicaid Managed Care plan. PAPER SHRED, The Lake Gaston Association will sponsor its Seventh Annual Community Paper Shred on Saturday, May 8, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. The collection will be accomplished in the lower parking area at the Roanoke-Wildwood Volunteer Fire Department at 790 Lizard Creek Road The service is free to the public but contributions will be gratefully accepted. Items to be shredded can include any old paper records; staples and paper clips need not be removed, but please no three-ring binders or heavy metal clamps. We can accept any amounts of paper for shredding that can be processed in the time period. The truck-mounted shredder consumes about 10 book boxes/cases of paper every 8 minutes. No boxes, no computer memory discs or thumb drives can go in the shredder. People can stand and watch while the paper is shredded. SPRING CLEAN OUT recycling in Granville County is Saturday, May 15. This year, paints and household chemicals have been added to the list of accepted items.no need to wait until fall! Other accepted items will be scrap metal, electronics, all types of batteries, polystyrene/styrofoam, outdated prescriptions, books, paper documents for shredding, pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, flares, ammunition and more. The event is scheduled from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Granville County Expo and Convention Center, 4185 U.S. 15 South in Oxford. BIKE SAFETY, The Henderson Family YMCA is holding a bicycle safety event on Saturday, May 15, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the YMCA parking lot, 380 Ruin Creek Road, Henderson. Free helmets are available to the first 50 children. There will be helmet fittings, car seat safety checks, bicycle inspections, Pelican’s Snoballs, and giveaways.

MEDICAID CONTRACTS, The Vance County Department of Social Services will host informational sessions regarding contracts for services for Medicaid transportation, Work First transportation, and lawn care services. Contracts will be for the fiscal year July 1, 2021, through June 30, 2022.The meeting is opened to all interested parties and will be held on Monday, May 17, 2021, at our main office located at 350 Ruin Creek Road, Henderson, North Carolina. To ensure social distancing, there will be two sessions: 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 11 a.m. to noon. HOT SAUCE, The 15th Annual Hot Sauce Contest will be held on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021, in downtown Oxford from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Come sample and purchase barbecue and hot sauces, and locally crafted products. You will not want to miss the food trucks, selected crafted brews, unique sounds from local bands, the pepper-eating contest, classic car show and cheering your favorite sauce to win a 2021 medal naming best sauces.
