THE CREATIVE LIFELONG LEARNING PROGRAM of Granville County Senior Services is re-introducing programs for spring, and is gradually moving to in-person class offerings at the Granville County Senior Center in Oxford. Upcoming classes include “Eat Smart, Move More” (Wednesdays through May 26). Community awareness programs such as a “Look Back” at Granville County History (June 7, with local author Lewis Bowling) are also offered, as well as weekly interest groups such as “North Carolina, Our Home” (monthly) and “Games, Anyone” (Wednesdays). Instructors are also needed to round out the class schedule. OXFORD BUDGET, The Budget & Finance Committee for the Oxford Board of Commissioners will meet on Wednesday, May 12, at 1 p.m. via Zoom. The purpose of the meeting is to review an update of the city of Oxford’s water and wastewater financial planning model, to be presented by Melissa Levin with Raftelis, and to further discuss the fiscal 2021-22 budget. SPRING CLEAN OUT recycling in Granville County is Saturday, May 15. This year, paints and household chemicals have been added to the list of accepted items.no need to wait until fall! Other accepted items will be scrap metal, electronics, all types of batteries, polystyrene/styrofoam, outdated prescriptions, books, paper documents for shredding, pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, flares, ammunition and more. The event is scheduled from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Granville County Expo and Convention Center, 4185 U.S. 15 South in Oxford. BIKE SAFETY, The Henderson Family YMCA is holding a bicycle safety event on Saturday, May 15, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the YMCA parking lot, 380 Ruin Creek Road, Henderson. Free helmets are available to the first 50 children. There will be helmet fittings, car seat safety checks, bicycle inspections, Pelican’s Snoballs, and giveaways.

MEDICAID CONTRACTS, The Vance County Department of Social Services will host informational sessions regarding contracts for services for Medicaid transportation, Work First transportation, and lawn care services. Contracts will be for the fiscal year July 1, 2021, through June 30, 2022.The meeting is opened to all interested parties and will be held on Monday, May 17, 2021, at our main office located at 350 Ruin Creek Road, Henderson, North Carolina. SHRINERS FISH FRY, The Tri-County Shrine Club will hold its annual fish fry from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Sherman & Boddie building, 210 Industry Drive in Henderson (next to Mako Labs). HOT SAUCE, The 15th Annual Hot Sauce Contest will be held on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021, in downtown Oxford from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Come sample and purchase barbecue and hot sauces, and locally crafted products. You will not want to miss the food trucks, selected crafted brews, unique sounds from local bands, the pepper-eating contest, classic car show and cheering your favorite sauce to win a 2021 medal naming best sauces.
