OXFORD — The Granville County Republican Party held its annual convention and has elected a new slate of party officers. Chad McHenry was unanimously elected as the 2021-22 chairman of the local GOP.

At their largest convention to date, the Republican delegates also elected Mike Magnanti as vice chairman, Tony Gooch as treasurer, Ridge Parker as secretary, and Sheila May as finance chairwoman.

“Each one of our new Republican officers brings with them years of campaign, fundraising and media experience that is needed to advance our conservative message and increase the Republican footprint here in Granville County,” McHenry said.

Although new to their local positions, McHenry, Magnanti and Parker are all veteran campaigners.

McHenry has served three terms as an elected official, while collectively; Magnanti and Parker have managed dozens of campaigns in Texas, Virginia, Montana, Arizona, New York, Florida and in North Carolina. Treasurer Tony Gooch is the director of development operations at the Durham Rescue Mission.

Finance Chairwoman Sheila May is the wife of County Commissioner Russ May and served as his campaign treasurer and media director.

Coming off last fall’s victory of District 5 Commissioner Russ May as his campaign manager, McHenry said, “The Republican Party is committed to running principled conservative candidates for all available school board and county commissioner seats in 2022.”

McHenry also cited the Granville County sheriff’s race as one that will attract a large amount of local interest. “For the first time in many years Granville Republicans will have a decisive and history making voice in electing the next sheriff,” he said.

McHenry pledged that under his leadership all time, energy, and money raised will be spent locally on delivering Republican victories here in Granville County. He urged Republicans to get engaged by attending the monthly GOP meetings and following the local party on Facebook.
