OXFORD — Vance Charter punched its ticket to the third round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 1A softball playoffs Thursday with a 10-0 win over Oxford Prep.

It was the second shutout in a row for the Knights, who are scheduled to host seventh-seeded East Columbus on Tuesday.

Logan Privette tossed a no-hitter Tuesday to lead No. 2 Vance Charter past No. 31 Rocky Mount Prep 17-0 in the first round of the state playoffs.

Privette struck out eight batters Tuesday and the Knights scored 13 in the bottom of the first inning.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

No. 15 Vance Charter is scheduled to host No. 18 River Mill Academy of Graham on Monday in the first round of the NCHSAA 1A playoffs.

Reigning champion Kerr-Vance earned the fourth seed and a subsequent bye to the state baseball quarterfinals, where the Spartans knocked out No. 5 Greenfield 11-0.

KVA moves on the state semifinals next week to face either No. 1 Lawrence Academy or No. 8 Albemarle School.
