HENDERSON — The Vance County Housing Authority is partnering with local nonprofit Faith Family Outreach for a back-to-school book bag giveaway on Aug. 7 at Lincoln Height Apartments. The event is from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
The community event is for the families of Lincoln Height Apartments. There are currently 75 families who are residents of the apartment complex.
Other than the back-to-school bookbag drive the organization is also offering COVID-19 vaccinations to everyone. There will be free food and music at the event as well.
“We like to bring things to our community, a lot of times this section of the community gets overlooked and I think it’s really awesome that Faith Family Outreach partnered with us to make this happen for our children,” said Bonita Hawkins, executive director of Vance County Housing Authority.
“We want to make sure they are prepared to go back to school; we also want to make sure they are able to get their vaccines for those who are of age,” Hawkins said. “We want to make sure our residents have what they need to be successful.”
Faith Family Outreach will also be offering after-school programs to parents for the up-and-coming school year during the back-to-school book bag giveaway.
