E.J. Hart III

OXFORD — E.J. Hart III, 69, of Oxford, died Friday, April 26, 2013.

A native of Granville County, he was the son of the late Ed J. Hart Jr. and Vivian Royster Hart, grandson of Jenkins and Hettie Pittard Hart. He graduated from Oak Hill High School and was a member of Mt. Creek Baptist Church, had retired as associate director of engineering at Durham Regional Hospital and was the former owner of Hart Electric and Plumbing.

Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m., Monday, April 29, 2013, at Mt. Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Johnny Richards and the Rev. Lemar Wheeler. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Surviving are his wife of 28 years, Susan Hicks Hart; his son, Charles Edward “Chip” Hart of Clarksville, Va.; his daughters, Jan Elizabeth Hart and Robynne Frances Hart Williams, both of Oxford; brother, Carroll Royster Hart of Oxford, Steve Allen Hart of Portsmouth, N.H.; his sister, Jane Hart Robinson of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Mary Ashleigh Pendergrast of Oklahoma City, Okla., Natalie Elizabeth Wilbourne of Oxford, Taylor Heath Williams of Oxford and Mia Grace Williams of Oxford; great-grandchildren, Julianne and Aubree of Oklahoma City, Okla. E.J. was preceded in death by a sister, Sandra Hart Wallace; and a brother, Lynwood Taylor Hart.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, Attn: Development Department, 875 N Randolph St. Suite 225, Arlington, VA 22203-1767.

Willie A. Wilson

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. — Willie Ann Wilson, 77, of Kittrell, Vance County, died Friday, April 26, 2013, at her son’s residence.

She was born on Feb. 1, 1936, in Kittrell, to the late Willis Hunter and Bertha Daye Hunter. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Samuel Howard Hunter.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 3, 2013, at 10 a.m., at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Chapel with the Rev. Raymond Terrell officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, May 3, 2013, from 9 a.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Willie was a nurse’s aide for 20 years at Jersey Shore Medical Center. She was a member of Asbury Evangelist Chapel.

She is survived by her son, Wilmont (Gerty) Callender of Clarksville, Tenn.; two brothers, John Curtis Hunter of Chesapeake Bay, Va., and William Henry Hunter of Kittrell; two sisters, Yvonne Davis and Brenda Green, both of Kittrell; and two grandchildren, Tyrone Callender and Natascha-Ann Callender.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Duroff M. Daniel

RALEIGH — Duroff M. Daniel, 60, a resident of Franklin Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Louisburg, died Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Wake Med Hospital in Raleigh.

Born in Mecklenburg, Va., he was the son of the late John Sr. and Martha Bullock Hargrove.

He attended both Vance-County Public Schools and Vance-Granville Community College.

Survivors include: one daughter, Shonda Macon of Henderson; one son, Duroff Daniel of Henderson; four grandchildren; two sisters, Diane William of Virginia Beach, Va., and Delfreda Wilson of Georgia; four brothers, Stewart Daniel of Spanaway, Wash., James Daniel of Bronx, N.Y., David Daniel of Roxboro and John Daniel of Henderson.

The body will be on view today, from 1-6 p.m., at the funeral home and at the church one hour before the service.

Ferdie W. Davis

HENDERSON — Ferdie Jean Williams Davis, 63, a native of Henderson, died Sunday, April 28, 2013.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Lori Chappell Funeral Home in Henderson at a later date.

Annabelle Gatling

HENDERSON — Annabelle Gatling, 89, a resident of Kindred Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, died Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson.

She was the daughter of the late Junious Burton and Mary Lena Meadows Burton.

She is survived by one son, Sidney Gatling Jr. of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one sister, Dorothy Williams of Henderson; and one brother, Eugene Burton of Henderson.

Funeral services will be conducted today, at 2 p.m., at Wright Funeral Home in Oxford by the Rev. Roy Burroughs. Burial will be held Wednesday,  at 1 p.m., at Roosevelt Memorial Park in Chesapeake, Va.

John Hargrove Jr.

HENDERSON — Elder John Hargrove Jr., 61, of 1148 Vicksboro Road, Henderson, died Sunday, April 28, 2013, at his residence.

He was born June 2, 1951, in Franklin County, to the late John Hargrove Sr. and Elnora Hargrove.

He was educated in Warren and Vance County public schools. He was employed with Revlon Cosmetics until his retirement.

Hargrove attended Refuge Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ in his early years. Later, he became an ordained elder and was the pastor of Full Truth Way of the Cross Church of Christ of the Apostolic Faith in Louisburg. He also served as the assistant pastor of Abundant Grace Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ in South Boston, Va., until his health declined.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at 2:30 p.m., at Greater Refuge Church with Elder Michael Walker delivering the eulogy and Elder William Winston officiating. Interment will follow in Blacknall Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Terry Hargrove; two sons: John Hargrove III and Joseph Hargrove; two daughters: Belinda Parrish and Debra Montague; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

A viewing will take place today, from 1-6 p.m., at the funeral home and at the church one hour prior to the service.

The family is receiving friends at the residence.

HENDERSON — Calvin Mills, 23, of 155 Computer Lane, Henderson, died Sunday, April 28, 2013.
