Deborah Alston

WARRENTON — Deborah Alston, 53, of 347 Read Road in Warrenton, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at her residence.

Funeral Services will be conducted Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Providence Baptist Church in Wise. Pastor Kathard Marks will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Survivors include: her husband, Milton Alston of the home; two sons, Christopher Tuck of Colonial Heights, Va., and Deshawn M. Alston of Warrenton; one daughter, Jacqulea Q. Anderson of the home; one sister, Cynthia Faye Champion of Warrenton; and three brothers, Charles Tuck of Manson, Curley Tuck of Hineville, Ga. and Daniel Jackson of Warrenton; and her grandmother.

The body will be on view Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, from 11 a.m.-7 p.m., at Boyd’s Funeral Services Chapel in Warrenton.

Professional services have been entrusted to Boyd’s Funeral Services in Warrenton.

Eva M. Alston

HENDERSON — Eva Mae Alston, 94, of Henderson, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at Kindred Nursing and Rehabilitation, Henderson.

Alston was born in Vance County on June 11, 1919, to the late James L. Evans and Mary Hamilton Evans. Prior to retiring, she was employed as a nurse’s assistant at Women’s Medical in Philadelphia, Pa.

Survivors include: one daughter, Frances White of West Berlin, N.J.; one grandson; 10 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Hanks of Townsville.

Services will be private; burial will take place in Elmwood Cemetery, Henderson.

HENDERSON — Robert Clyde Brown, 60, of 422 Harriett St,, Henderson, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at his residence.

WARRENTON — The Rev. Phyllis Cheek, 57, of Warrenton, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at Duke University Hospital in Durham.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at 2:30 p.m., from Coley Spring Baptist Church. the Rev. Lennis Thorpe Sr. will officiate and burial will follow in the Schocco Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Freddy Cheek of the home; one son, Fredrick Dwayne Cheek of Rocky Mount; four grandchildren; two sisters, Minster Queen Richardson of Rocky Mount and Brenda Branch of Henderson; and two brothers, Henry Clark of Henderson and Nathanial Clark of New Orleans.

The body will be on view Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, from 11 a.m.-7 p.m., at Boyd’s Funeral Service in Warrenton.

WARRENTON — Geneva C. Hymon Crews, 73, of 466 Beamon Hunt Road, Warrenton, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at 11 a.m., at Coley Springs Missionary Baptist Church in Warrenton.

Pastor Carson F. Jones Jr. will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Survivors include: her husband, Leonard Crews of the home; three sons, Floyd E. Hymon, Walter H. Hymon Jr. and Ronald D, Hymon, all of Warrenton; two brothers, Thomas Christmas of Lindell, N.J., and Earl Christmas of Knightdale; and one sister, Elder Carolyn Slade of Warrenton.

HENDERSON — James Hawley, 79, of 892 Gun Club Road, Henderson, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at his residence.

HENDERSON — Johnny “Lee” Jones, 59, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013.

Survivors include: one daughter, Misty Southerland of the home; two sisters, Gladys Jones and Shawanda Jones, both of Louisburg; and three brothers, Frank Douglas Jones of Kittrell and James H. Jones and Charlie Columbus Jones Jr., both of Louisburg.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at 1 p.m., from Allen Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Quinton Alston officiating. Burial will follow in the Hargrove Family Cemetery.

An open visitation will take place at Richardson Funeral Home in Louisburg on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, from 3-7 p.m.

Robert L. Lloyd

OXFORD — Robert Lee Lloyd, 80, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at UNC Hospital, Chapel Hill after a brief illness.

A native of Granville County, he was the son of the late Thomas Clyde and Irene Mangum Lloyd. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from the textile industry.

Funeral services will be conducted today, at 2 p.m., in the Chapel of Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home by the Rev. John Yount. Burial will be at Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery.

He is survived by a daughter, Susan Cottrell, and a son, Tommy Lloyd, both of Oxford; three grandchildren; a sister, Marie Wilson of Stovall; and two brothers, Carl Lloyd of Smyrna, Ga., and Charles Lloyd of Durham. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary P. Lloyd; and sisters, Mildred Wilson and Janie O’Brien.

The family will received friends Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, from 1-2 p.m., prior to the services at the funeral home. At other times they will be at the home of J.R. and Susan Cottrell, 3689 Chewning Road, Oxford.

WILMINGTON — Alexander Macklin, 69, of 1304 King St., Wilmington, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at New Hanover Regional Hospital in Wilmington.

Louis S. Maillard

WARRENTON — Louis S. Maillard, 87, a resident of 953 Lick Skillet Road, Warrenton, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at Veterans Hospital in Durham.

He was a native of New York City. He was a retired jazz musician and employee of the United States Postal Service. He was an army veteran.

He is survived by five daughters, Loreen D. Green of Warrenton, Mara A. Brooks of Charlotte, and Lorell D. Maillard, Christol D. Dawn and Alonda T. Ross, all of Far Rockaway, N.Y.; one son, Christopher D. Dawn of Far Rockaway, N.Y.; one sister, Phyllis Finney, Fort Myers, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at noon, at Wright Funeral Home Chapel in Oxford by the Rev. Roy Burroughs. Burial will be at a later date in a national cemetery.

A viewing will take place Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, from 11 a.m.-7 p.m., at Wright Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to services at the funeral home.


James C. Morton Jr.

WARRENTON — James Colman Morton Jr., 56, of 864 U.S. 158 Business West, Warrenton, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at Duke University Hospital in Durham.

He was born in Concord on March 13, 1957, to the late James Coleman Sr. and the late Lugenia Morton.

He was educated at North West Carbarrus High School and Livingstone College.

He was employed by Phillip-Morris Tobacco Company in Concord, in the security dept. After relocating to Henderson, he was employed by Revlon Cosmetic Company in Oxford.

Funeral services will be held today, at 3:30 p.m., at Cotton Memorial Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Gordon Marshall officiating.

A viewing took place Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, from noon-6 p.m., at the funeral home. Another will take place at the church one hour before the service.

Harold L. Reavis

HENDERSON — Harold Livingston Reavis, 86, of 1224 Hargrove St., Henderson, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson.

Born in Vance County, he was the son of the late George Raymond Reavis and Madeline Hoyle Reavis.

Reavis was the retired owner of Reb’s Auto Sales. He was a member of Flat Rock United Methodist Church.

Memorial services will be private.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Ferebee Watkins Reavis; two daughters, Donna R. Herrera and Debbie R. Wilson, both of Henderson; six sisters, Anne R. Creech and Nancy R. Barker, both of Henderson, Frances R. Tucker of Springfield, Va., Jane R. Wallin of Richmond, Va., Carolyn R. Bullock of Greensboro and Rose R. Power of Corpus Christi, Texas; three brothers, John Reavis of Hickory, George Reavis of Mount Airy and Hoyle Reavis of Henderson; and one grandson. He was preceded in death by a sister, Kay Reavis; and two brothers, Page Reavis and C.B. Reavis.

Flowers are omitted. Memorials may be made to the church or charity of one’s choice.

Mary L. Robinson

OXFORD — Mary Louise Robinson, 76, a resident of 133 Webb Place, Oxford, died Wednesday, Jan., 17, 2013, at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson.

She was the daughter of the late Samuel J. Robinson Jr. and Pauline Henderson Robinson.

Survivors include: two daughters; Joyce Davis of Henderson and Vicki Robinson of Grand Rapids, Mich.; two brothers; Woodrow Robinson of Purcellville, Va., and William Robinson of Oxford; and one granddaughter.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Penn Avenue Baptist Church, with a eulogy delivered by the Rev. Willie S. Darby. Burial will follow in the Morton Family Cemetery.

A viewing will take place from today, from 11 a.m.-7 p.m., at the Betts and Son Funeral Home in Oxford.

Lowry B. Williams Sr.

OXFORD — Lowry Ballard Williams Sr., 89, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013.

A native of Granville county, he was the son of the late Pressley and Nora Vaughan Williams. Lowry attended West Oxford Baptist Church and was a self-employed painter.

Funeral services will be held on today, at 2 p.m., at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Chapel by the Rev. Wes Garner. Burial will follow at Mt. Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30-2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Survivors include: a son, P.T. Williams of Garner; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Lowry was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Williams; and two sons, Kenny Williams and Lowry Williams Jr.
