Driver in Sunday fatal crash to make court appearance
Vincent Gregory was scheduled to make his first appearance in Vance County District Court Monday morning in connection to the death of 5-year-old Jayden Chad Stokes on Sunday.
Gregory is facing charges of felony death by motor vehicle, assault inflicting serious injury by a motor vehicle, driving while impaired and driving while license revoked. He was jailed with a secured bond of $1,001,000.
Police arrested Gregory following a collision involving Gregory and two pedestrians in the 600 block of East Montgomery Street in Henderson just after 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. When police arrived, they found the child and his father, 22-year-old Richard Thomas Stokes, injured by the 1998 GMC truck driven by the 47-year-old Gregory.
Gregory, of 270 Sparrow Lane in Henderson, was going east and drove left of the roadway. His truck collided with a utility pole, going over the curb and hitting the father and son before coming to rest in a tree.
All three were transported to a hospital. The 5-year-old was pronounced dead at the hospital.
