Gracious honor

Southern Vance High School assistant principal Desmond Thompson congratulates retired athletics director Ed Wilson as he is honored by the Raiders softball team before the start of their game Monday afternoon. Wilson was presented a plaque that reads "A token of appriciation presented to Mr. Ed Wilson for all of your years of service to Southern Vance athletics and your special love of Raiders softball." In addition to the presented plaque, the outfield flagpole at the Southern Vance softball field was dedicated to Wilson and a plaque will be placed on the pole honoring him.

In a game between crosstown rivals who interestingly share opposite records, the Kerr-Vance Academy Spartans improved to 5-0 with a 24-0 shutout win over the Crossroads Christian School Colts in five innings on Thursday.

Prep Roundup: Vikings, Warriors excel in conference match

The Northern Vance and J.F. Webb varsity golf teams finished third and sixth respectively in a 3-A Big Eight 18-hole conference match hosted by Southern Durham on Wednesday.

The Vikings’ 338 team score was just two shots out of second place. Northern’s four scorers were Tommy Alicardi (77), Johnny Byrom (79), James Vaughn (85) and Clifton Reid-Bridges (97). Alicardi’s 77 was tied for third overall and Byrom’s 79 was tied for fifth.

Cardinal Gibbons finished first on Wednesday and remains in first place in the overall conference standings.
