Prep Roundup: Norris nets 44 in Colts’ win
Zack Norris scored 44 points Tuesday at Community Christian to lead Crossroads Christian to its 14th win of the season.
The Colts jumped out to an early lead before earning an 88-72 victory over a Community program that has posted first and second-place finishes in the Carolina Christian Conference standings the past two seasons.
Crossroads secured a fifth-place finish with Tuesday’s win.
Holden Hedgepeth scored 19 for Crossroads and Reid Sudheimer added 13.
Crossroads coach Joseph Cooper also highlighted the defensive play of Sal Brown.
The Colts are scheduled to visit New Life Christian Friday.
Southern wins third straight
Southern Vance picked up its third consecutive win Wednesday by downing N.C. School of Science and Math 67-53.
Nine players scored for Southern led by Ty-Traveon Roberts’ 20 points and seven rebounds. Qualik Shearin had 10 points and Shawn Henderson finished with seven assists, six rebounds and three steals.
The Raiders outscored NCSSM 20-6 in the third quarter.
Southern, which plays at Roanoke Rapids Friday, is 8-9 overall and 5-4 in the 2-A Northern Carolina Conference.
Lady Raiders roll over Science and Math
Rashyda Burwell scored 14 points to lead Southern Vance Wednesday in a 59-34 win at N.C. School of Science and Math.
Burwell added seven steals and Breona Jones had 13 points as Southern improved to 9-0 in the 2-A Northern Carolina Conference and 15-2 overall.
Southern led 28-20 at halftime.
The Raiders visit Roanoke Rapids on Friday.
KVA victorious against Faith
The Kerr-Vance varsity boys basketball team defeated Faith Christian 70-58 Wednesday behind 20 points from R.J. Hunt, 16 from Joseph Burnette and 15 from Derrian Markham.
Jordan Coghill added nine points for KVA, which had eight players score.
The Spartans bounced back from a 70-45 loss Tuesday at Grace Christian of Raleigh. Hunt had 19 points against Grace and Markham tallied nine.
KVA’s final home game is Friday against St. David’s
Middle school Spartans finish 11-2
Kerr-Vance wrapped up its middle school girls basketball campaign Wednesday with a 21-8 win over Rocky Mount Academy.
Eight players scored for the Spartans, who finished 11-2 on the season.
Members of the KVA squad are Hollie Steg, Becca Johnson, Nicole Dunkley, Riley Short, Sydney Naradzay, Emma Hogge, Kaylee Stevenson, Ashley Dickerson, Kayla Lyles.
KVA middle school boys end season with win
Kerr-Vance wrapped a 9-4 middle school boys basketball season Wednesday with a 35-19 win over Rocky Mount Academy.
Colby Wilkerson led the Spartans with 18 points and Beau Nutter finished with nine.
