Taylor wins first ACC outdoor shot put title
N.C. State redshirt junior Tremanisha Taylor won the shot put April 18 in the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championship in Chapel Hill to earn her fourth All-ACC honor.
It was the first outdoor league shot put title for the former three-sport Southern Vance star, who bested the field of 17 with a throw of just over 54 feet to take the gold medal, making her the first N.C. State female to win the outdoor shot put since 2010.
Taylor also won the ACC indoor shot put in 2013 and took third this season.
Taylor followed the impressive showing in Chapel Hill by defending her title at the 120th Penn Relays Thursday, setting a new school mark in the women’s shot put with a throw of 57 feet, 9 inches.
Taylor’s throw is also the top one in NCAA outdoor competition this season and was the ninth-best all-time at the prestigious Penn Relays.
“Penn is just a laid-back meet, right, so I just came to have some fun,” Taylor told gopack.com. “The new facilities are beautiful, the rings are nice and smooth. This win helps my season a lot. It’s an ego boost. It shows that I can compete at a higher level. It motivates me for regionals and to try to get some more big throws out there.”
Those NCAA regionals are slated for May 29 in Jacksonville, Fla.
