Prep Roundup: Strong outings for Northern Carolina pitchers
Brittany West struck out 10 of the 12 batters she faced Friday for Southern Vance in a 15-0 win over Durham School of the Arts in three and a half innings.
West didn’t allow a walk or hit in her first shutout of the season and helped her cause with a triple and home run at the plate.
Southern’s Kiyanna Kearney was 3-for-4 with a double, Megan Hight was 2-for-3 and Bree Simmons had a home run. Mikayla Sellers, Ayeshia Teasley, Heather Satterwhite, and Kristen Dickerson each added hits.
The win was Southern’s third straight as the Raiders (4-5, 3-3 Northern Carolina Conference) evened their league mark.
Fourth-place Southern travels to second-place Bunn on Tuesday.
Sullivan fans 15 in Eagles’ win
Warren County posted its fourth consecutive baseball win, 7-3, Thursday against N.C. School of Science and Math.
Hayden Sullivan tossed a complete game for the Eagles, striking out 15.
Sullivan added a double at the plate, as did Tyler Thompson. Blake Tharrington was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and Darian Sellers added a triple.
Warren County (5-4, 3-2 Northern Carolina Conference) is a game back of Bunn and South Granville for second place in the league.
Roanoke Rapids is on top of the standings with an unbeaten conference mark.
The Eagles visit Franklinton Tuesday and host South Granville Wednesday.
