Eagle boys, girls on the road for playoffs

The Warren County boys and girls will both be on the road Monday in the 2-A state playoffs.

The Eagle boys earned a nine seed and visit No. 8 Pittsboro Northwood at 8 p.m.

Northwood (16-10) finished second in the 2-A Carolina Conference and fell to top-seeded Carrboro in the tourney championship Friday.

Warren County coach Wanda Thompson said the Chargers play an up-tempo style. The Eagle game plan will be to pound it inside to A.J. Alston and Daniel Hunter, she said.

“If we can handle their man-to-man pressure, I think we’ll be OK,” said Thompson.

Warren County (17-8) was third in the Northern Carolina Conference and was eliminated in the tourney semifinals by Bunn. The Eagles were knocked out of the playoffs’ first round last season by Bunn.

Awaiting in the second round Wednesday will likely be top-seeded 2-A powerhouse Kinston (22-2).

Warren County’s girls also took third in the conference and were given a 12 seed. The Eagles (11-13) visit No. 5 Bertie (19-5) of the Northeastern Coastal Conference Monday at 6:30 p.m.
