Lady Raiders set to host Eastern Guilford

Southern Vance will host a first-round 3-A state playoff game Monday against Eastern Guilford of the Mid-State Conference.

The eight-seeded Lady Raiders (20-6) finished third in the Carolina Conference and were defeated by Chapel Hill Friday in the league tourney title game. No. 9 Eastern Guilford brings a 17-9 overall record to the game, scheduled to tip at 6:30 p.m.

Southern coach Amy Simpson said point guard Breona Jones is “day-to-day” after suffering a neck injury near the end of Friday’s game. Jones scored 19 of the Raiders’ 31 points.

“We just have to be able to figure out how we’re going to handle pressure and how we can attack other teams defensively,” said Simpson.

Simpson added she hopes her team uses Friday’s 49-point loss as motivation.

The Raiders were eliminated in the first round a season ago.

With a win Monday, Southern would likely visit No. 1 Northern Guilford (26-1) Wednesday.
