Local roundup: Northern softball edged by Chapel Hill

The Northern Vance softball team was defeated by Chapel Hill 7-5 Friday.

Kara Reese led the Vikings offensively and defensively. She was 4-for-4 at the plate with a solo home run, a double and two singles and struck out 11 on the mound.

Jesse Edwards was 3-for-4 and Sameal Young and Avery Allen both registered hits for the Vikes.

Northern hosts Orange Tuesday.

Spartans shut out Grace Christian

Kerr-Vance secured an 11-0, five-inning shutout of Grace Christian of Raleigh Thursday behind a complete-game performance from Tyson Carrier.

Carrier gave up two hits and struck out seven.

“Really pleased with the pitching that I am getting out of my guys,” said KVA coach Todd Wilkerson. “Our defense is backing up our pitchers very well. Hitting is coming around. Just really pleased.”

Adam Medlin, Daniel Wilkerson, Lane Humphries, Damon Stevenson, Jon Ross Holland, and Will Moss each registered hits for KVA.
