Ortiz scores 5, Spartans take second in Greenfield Cup
Lorenzo Ortiz debuted for Kerr-Vance Academy in the Greenfield Cup with five goals and two assists.
The N.C. Independent School Athletic Association Class 1-A Spartans finished with a win, draw and loss in the three-day tournament, taking second behind Grace Christian of Sanford in the four-team field.
Ortiz, a senior Southern Vance transfer, tallied a hat trick last Saturday in KVA’s 5-1 win over 1-A Greenfield.
Ortiz also assisted on Emil Bruce and Joseph Burnette goals and Jordan Hogge and Sam Fuquay each added assists on two of Ortiz’ scores.
KVA and 3-A Parrott Academy played to a 2-2 draw last Friday with Hogge and Ortiz each finding the net. Colin Pegram and Juan Lopez added assists.
Ortiz scored KVA’s lone goal unassisted when the Spartans started the tournament last Thursday with a 2-1 defeat to 2-A Grace Christian of Sanford, the reigning 1-A champion.
KVA returns to action Tuesday, hosting Ridgecroft of Ahoskie at 5:30 p.m.
