Prep Roundup: Sellers, Sullivan lead Eagles over Roanoke Rapids
Warren County moved within a game of Roanoke Rapids in the 2-A Northern Carolina Conference baseball standings Friday.
The Eagles’ 6-4 win over Roanoke Rapids keeps them in fourth place with four games on the schedule next week.
Warren County (8-7, 6-4) rebounded from being shut out by league-leading Bunn on Thursday.
“We played much better tonight,” said Warren County head coach Randy Martin. “I don’t think we made but one error tonight.”
Hayden Sullivan tossed a complete game for the Eagles, allowing six hits and striking out seven on his Senior Night.
Sullivan’s classmate, Darian Sellers, knocked in the go-ahead run in the sixth on a two-run hit to make it 5-4.
The remaining seniors got in on the act too; Hunter Powell had a hit and two RBIs, Thomas McCaffity and Antonio Thompson had hits and Pete Johnson scored the sixth run on a passed ball.
Junior Tyler Thompson also had a hit and RBI.
As for the top half of those standings?
“Things could get mixed up,” said Martin.
Warren County has a doubleheader at Franklinton Monday before visiting Southern Vance Tuesday and closing the regular season Friday at second-place South Granville.
Spartans defeat St. David’s, 12-2
The Kerr-Vance varsity baseball team defeated St. David’s 12-2 Thursday behind the pitching of Damon Stevenson and Dustin Smith.
Stevenson tossed four innings, striking out two and Smith threw two innings, striking out five.
Leading the Spartans at the plate: Stevenson (2-for-4), Smith (1-for-1, home run), Adam Medlin (2-for-3), Pierce Tooley (2-for-3), Daniel Wilkerson (1-for-2).
