ACC releases 2014 football dates

With the ACC’s realignment transformation complete, the league has announced the 2014 football schedule.

Louisville joins the conference this season, following former Big East opponents Pittsburgh and Syracuse, which competed in their inaugural ACC campaigns in 2013. The Cardinals are replacing Big Ten-bound Maryland.

The ACC also begins its partnership with Notre Dame, a full-time ACC member in every sport except football. The Fighting Irish will play five football games annually with ACC opponents in the future, but only four this season.

Syracuse, Florida State, Louisville, and North Carolina each have dates with Notre Dame in 2014.

UNC visits the Irish Oct. 11. The 2013 Belk Bowl champion Tar Heels’ other non-conference road game is Sept. 20 at East Carolina. Home games against Liberty and San Diego State round out the non-league matchups.

North Carolina and N.C. State meet Nov. 29, the final Saturday of the regular season.

The battle for the Victory Bell between North Carolina and Duke will be a primetime affair on ESPN, slated for Thursday, Nov. 20 in Durham.

Duke has Elon, Kansas and Tulane at home. The 2013 Coastal Division champion Blue Devils also visit Troy in non-conference action.

Perhaps no ACC team will be more eager to put 2013 in the rearview mirror than N.C. State, which finished 3-9 last season.

The Wolfpack opens with four consecutive non-conference games, beginning with home contests against Georgia Southern and Old Dominion before a road date at South Florida. A home date with FCS opponent Presbyterian rounds out the non-league tilts before N.C. State welcomes reigning national champion Florida State to Carter-Finley Stadium on Sept. 27.
