Prep Roundup: Vikings sweep Eagles in shortened tennis match

Northern Vance topped Warren County in tennis for the second time this season with an abbreviated 6-0 win on Thursday.
Doubles play was suspended due to inclement weather.

The Vikings (2-1) are scheduled to host J.F. Webb Friday and the Eagles (0-4) host South Granville Wednesday.

Northern salvages draw in Stem

Northern Vance earned a scoreless draw Thursday at Granville Central despite starting the match with 10 players and finishing with nine.
The Vikings are expecting 11 players on the roster.

“Not giving up, they definitely proved that this young group we have has big hearts and something we can build our program on,” said Northern head coach Razvan Tegean.

Northern hosts Northern Nash on Monday.

Cutts nets 2 in KVA loss

The Kerr-Vance varsity girls soccer team opened the season Thursday with a 3-2 loss against Grace Christian of Sanford.

Bryles Cutts had both goals for the Spartans.

KVA head coach Amy Johnson cited strong offensive play by Mackenzie Jones and Jacey Monahan. Johnson also highlighted the defensive play of goalkeeper Shannon Cash along with the back line of Cassidy Tucker, Rachel Ross, Bailee Tippett, and Price Wester.

Spartans defeated by Grace of Sanford

A four-man Kerr-Vance tennis team was defeated 6-3 Thursday by visiting Grace Christian of Sanford.
The Spartans dropped to 1-1 and are scheduled to open Eastern Plains Independent Conference play Friday with Faith Christian.

No. 3 — KVA’s Murphy and Ellington lost 4-3 (shortened due to inclement weather).
