Bulls fall in Triple-A title game
The Durham Bulls broke up a perfect game in the seventh inning of Tuesday’s Triple-A National Championship before falling 2-1 to the Omaha Storm Chasers, the Pacific Coast League champion and a Kansas City Royals affiliate.
Durham had two on in the bottom of the ninth, but first baseman Vince Belnome struck out to end the game.
Omaha starter Chris Dwyer left in the eighth inning with the Storm Chasers up 2-0 before the Bulls’ Leslie Anderson knocked a pinch-hit home run to cut the lead in half.
The Bulls advanced to the one-off title game, held in Allentown, Pa., following a sweep of the Pawtucket Red Sox for the International League championship.
Durham made its first appearance in the Triple-A title game since 2009.
