Ellis reclaims Kerr Lake crown
Regina Ellis had her run of three consecutive titles snapped last year by Hilda Garrett. Ellis took back the Kerr Lake Country Club Ladies Invitational crown last Saturday, winning the 35th edition by eight shots.
Ellis finished with a 74, shooting 37 on the front and back nine each.
Garrett, the 2013 champion, tied Dottie Schmit with an 82 and claimed the tiebreaker for second and the First Flight title.
“It’s hard to catch up to that girl when she’s making all those putts,” Garrett said of Ellis. “She did a really great job.”
Garrett, a tournament committee member, presented Ellis with the trophy.
Shirley Clayton took the Second Flight and Nettie Edmonds won the Third Flight.
The tournament was held a couple of weeks later than usual, but Garrett said it will return to the second weekend of June next year.
“The weather was really nice. It wasn’t as hot as it had been,” said Garrett. “Overall, it went really smooth. It just went well. Everybody had a good time. The luncheon was nice. It was just nice.”
