Northern freshmen look strong in win over Eagles
Northern Vance is 2-0 after picking up its second win of the season over Warren County Monday. The Vikings won 25-15, 25-12, 25-8.
Setters Jesse Edwards and Megan Andrews, outside hitter Emily Hilliard and hitter Holly Hilliard were the standouts for Northern, according to the Vikings’ coaching staff.
Andrews and Holly Hilliard are both freshmen.
Northern head coach Christa Mosly said Andrews was originally a hitter, but is starting at setter.
Holly Hilliard tallied five aces Monday.
“She’s serving really well,” Mosly said of Holly Hilliard. “She’s an all-around player. She can play any position I put her at. She really stood out today. I’ve been really impressed by her.”
Warren County hosts N.C. School of Science and Math today at 6 p.m.
Northern opens 3-A Big Eight Conference play Thursday at Cedar Ridge before playing Southern Vance Friday.
“Everything is going well for us right now,” said Mosly. “I intend for us to have a winning season this year.”
