Local Roundup: Webb third in Carolina Conference golf opener
J.F. Webb was the top area finisher Monday in the first 3-A Carolina Conference golf meet of the season.
The Warriors shot 443 in the nipping air at Oxford’s Thorndale Country Club to finish behind Chapel Hill’s 346 and Orange’s 429.
Southern Vance as fourth with 466 and Northern Vance carded 470.
League favorite Cardinal Gibbons was a no-show due to scheduling miscommunication.
Webb coach John Hunt said even with the resulting penalty, the Crusaders are still likely to make up the ground and be the team to beat for the top overall spot.
Chapel Hill’s Jason Cohn was the low medalist with a 77 followed by teammate David Cho’s 78.
Taylor Cook of Webb registered the best area score with a 99, the fifth-lowest score at the meet. He was followed for the Warriors by Zach Porterfield’s 108.
The next league meet is hosted by Gibbons Monday in Raleigh.
