Local Roundup: Northern at Webb moved to Saturday
The Northern Vance at J.F. Webb basketball games, scheduled for Friday night, have been moved to Saturday.
The JV boys match will tip off at 4:30 p.m. in Oxford with the varsity girls to follow at 6 p.m. and the varsity boys at 7:30 p.m.
Southern Vance’s contests at Chapel Hill were moved to Thursday at their original times.
Lady Spartans win physical battle in Raleigh
Kerr-Vance earned its third 2-A Eastern Plains Independent Conference win of the season Thursday at Grace Christian of Raleigh.
The 43-24 win improved the Spartans’ record to 10-7 overall.
“It was a good win. They were a very physical team,” said KVA coach Brian Russell. “Every possession was really a battle.”
KVA, up 23-9 at the half, was led by Price Wester’s 13 points. All eight Spartans scored.
KVA visits Halifax Academy Tuesday.
KVA boys fall at Grace of Raleigh
The Kerr-Vance varsity boys basketball team was defeated by Grace Christian of Raleigh Thursday, 54-52.
R.J. Hunt left the game early on with an injury and Brandon Dickerson fouled out of the game.
The Spartans (13-4, 6-2) were down 10 at halftime before rallying to tie it in the third quarter.
“I really like the fight we showed. I think we got better as a team,” said KVA coach Dave Carrier.
Derrius Perry led the Spartans with 24 points and Tyson Carrier added eight points.
KVA is on the road at Halifax Academy Tuesday.
