Vikings look for positives after winless campaign

Northern Vance’s 21-20 loss to J.F. Webb Friday extended the Vikings’ streak without a win to 21 games, the longest active skid in the state.

Northern finished the season 0-11 after a 1-10 campaign last season.

The game, marred by an extensive brawl between members of the rival teams, featured a combined 27 penalties with 13 flags thrown for either personal fouls or unsportsmanlike conduct.

“I think it was a good game other than those calls,” Northern head coach Eric Watkins said following the game. “We just to have to take this into the offseason and get our workouts in. A lot of positives came out of this even with this record that we have.”

One of those positives was sophomore running back Tamaj Bullock, who eclipsed 1,000 rushing yards for the season with a 111-yard performance Friday.

Junior Tyrrick Bullock added 72 rushing yards for the Vikings.

Webb senior running back Tobiah Lewis piled up 160 yards on 24 carries with two second-quarter touchdowns.

The Warriors (3-8, 1-6) snapped a six-game skid to pick up their first 3-A Big Eight Conference win of the season under first-year head coach Tony Midgette. Efforts to speak with Midgette on Saturday were unsuccessful.
