Warrior girls drop opener to Franklinton
J.F. Webb already had two wins over Franklinton this season, but the Red Rams took Round 3 Thursday at the Southern Vance Holiday Classic, 43-24.
The Warriors (7-4), who have dropped their last two games, return to action at Southern today against Northwest Halifax at 5 p.m.
“We felt like Franklinton really wanted to win tonight,” said Webb coach Kenneth Rogers. “We’re having trouble scoring, we’re trying to get more people involved in the offense.”
The Warriors’ roster has undergone some changes in recent weeks, leaving the team in a state of transition before conference play begins.
“We had to show some people that respect is more important than the game of basketball,” said Rogers. “Hopefully, we’ll get some things back together, but right now, we’re trying to find our rhythm.”
Franklinton led 18-10 at halftime and took a 31-17 lead into the fourth quarter. The Red Rams outscored Webb 25-14 in the second half.
“They came out and got easy baskets, which you don’t want to happen,” said Rogers. “You don’t want teams getting easy baskets when you’re behind. We have to play better defense than that.”

Starr Jones and Janae Carroll both had seven points for Webb and Nakiyah Bullock finished with six.
Rogers said the Warriors could have a long season if they don’t find chemistry soon.
“We have to bounce back,” he said. “That’s our next step.”
Rocky Mount Prep defeated Bartlett Yancey 32-30 in the first game of the day Thursday.
Rocky Mount Prep faces Franklinton today at 3 p.m. before the Webb-Northwest Halifax match. The night concludes with a 7 p.m. contest between Southern and Bartlett Yancey.
