Skye Bolt drove in two runs to help North Carolina beat North Carolina State 4-3 in an Atlantic Coast Conference tournament elimination game.

The seventh-seeded and reigning champion Tar Heels (33-23) advanced Tuesday to pool play to face second-seeded Florida State on Wednesday.

Brett Austin had three hits for the 10th-seeded Wolfpack (32-23), who began the year ranked No. 5 by Baseball America and hoped to return to the College World Series. But N.C. State is uncertain to make the NCAA tournament.

N.C. State stranded 11 runners and came out on the short end of a controversial play in which Trea Turner was called out while stealing home in the fifth. Coach Elliott Avent angrily confronted umpire Mark Chapman, while replays showed Turner appeared to beat the tag.

Reliever Zach Rice (2-2) earned the win, while starter Eric Peterson (4-4) took the loss after leaving early trailing 4-1.

Georgia Tech tops Wake Forest 5-3

Daniel Spingola's two-run triple keyed a five-run second inning that lifted Georgia Tech past Wake Forest 5-3 in an Atlantic Coast Conference tournament play-in game.

The ninth-seeded Yellow Jackets (33-24) advanced into round-robin play at the tournament on Tuesday and will face top-seeded Miami on Wednesday.

Mitch Earnest hit an RBI double that scored Ryan Peurifoy, and Earnest and Brandon Gold scored one batter later on Spingola's triple to right field.

Mott Hyde followed with a triple to score Spingola, and he scored on Matt Gonzalez's single.

Kevin Conway had an RBI single in the third and Grant Shambley added a two-run single in the fifth for eighth-seeded Wake Forest (30-26).

Winner Sam Clay (4-1) relieved starter Matthew Grimes in the fifth and worked three scoreless innings. Losing pitcher Jack Fischer (4-7) allowed 11 hits in 5 1-3 innings.
