RailHawks bow out in Open Cup quarterfinal
The Carolina RailHawks' U.S. Open Cup run ended Wednesday with a 5-2 loss to visiting FC Dallas of Major League Soccer.
Fabian Castillo put Dallas ahead for good in the 44th minute, 3-2, and Blas Perez completed a hat trick in stoppage time.
Dallas moves on to the semifinals of the Open Cup to host Philadephia Union. Carolina would have hosted Philadephia with a win. The North American Soccer League squad previously knocked off MLS sides Chivas and LA Galaxy to advance to the quarterfinals.
Zack Schilawski opened the scoring for Carolina in the ninth minute before teammate Enzo Martinez leveled the score at 2 with a 37th-minute penalty kick.
The only other non-MLS club left in the tourney, Atlanta (NASL), was eliminated Wednesday by Chicago.
