Seager replaces Encarnacion on AL All-Star roster
Seattle Mariners third baseman Kyle Seager has been selected to replace injured Toronto first baseman Edwin Encarnacion on the American League's roster for next week's All-Star game.
Seager, a first-time All-Star, entered Monday with a .274 average, 13 homers, 59 RBIs and 21 doubles. The 26-year-old Concord native was selected out of UNC by the Mariners in the third round of the 2009 Major League Baseball draft.
Encarnacion, who has 26 home runs and 70 RBIs, was put on the 15-day disabled list Monday because of a strained right quadriceps.
The All-Star game is scheduled for July 15 at Target Field in Minneapolis.
