Lady Raiders rout Vikings 67-31

A two week-plus layoff didn’t seem to slow Southern Vance down very much against crosstown rival Northern Friday night.

The Lady Raiders jumped out to a 21-4 lead after one quarter and never let up on their way to a 67-31 win.
Southern improved to 12-1 on the season with the win. It was the 3-A Carolina Conference opener for both teams.

“I’m pretty pleased, a lot of good things,” said Southern coach Amy Simpson. “We still have to work on defense a whole lot more.”

Breona Jones led the Raiders with 21 points, five assists and four steals. Rashyda Burwell was also in double figures with 10 points, adding six rebounds.

Kechae Parker led Northern with 13 and Tanaua White had 10.

“What you saw was a seasoned team versus a still young (Northern Vance team),” said Viking coach Randolph Crews. “Tanaua is our only senior right now. You have a seasoned, balanced team versus a team still trying to figure it out.”

Southern led 37-12 at halftime.

The Raiders return to action Friday at Chapel Hill while Northern heads to Oxford to face J.F. Webb.
