For the sixth consecutive year, Northern Vance soccer teams have earned recognition for outstanding academic achievements through the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Head coach Razvan Tegean’s 2012 boys soccer team and 2013 girls soccer teams each earned the NSCAA Team Academic Award, making Northern one of 52 schools nationwide to receiver honors in both boys and girls soccer.

To qualify for the award, teams must have a minimum GPA of 3.25 for the entire academic year.

Northern’s 2012 boys soccer team ranked 10th out of 147 teams in the country and third in the state with a team GPA of 4.01; the Vikings’ 2013 girls squad was 89th of 241 teams with a GPA of 3.77.

Northern’s 2013 boys team was also one of 10 teams nationwide to receive the NSCAA Bronze Award in conjunction with the Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award. The Vikings earned the Bronze Award for receiving no red cards and no more than 10 yellow cards during the season.

A total of 15 teams nationwide received the Gold Award for no ejections (red) or cautions (yellow).
