Prep Roundup: Eagles end season in league tourney

Warren County’s tennis season ended Wednesday in Durham in the 2-A Northern Carolina Conference Tournament.

In singles, Warren County’s Bryan Bender was defeated by a South Granville player 3-6, 7-6 (10-6) and Mohammed Hussein was eliminated by Grant Poupard of Franklinton 6-0, 6-1.

In doubles, Austin Bender and Torre Caparatta fell to a Roanoke Rapids duo 6-3, 6-4 and Ismael Trejo and Delshawn Hicks were defeated by the third-seeded team from Durham School of the Arts 6-0, 6-0.

Bryan Bender, Warren County’s lone senior, was honored Tuesday by the team in practice after Senior Night against Roanoke Rapids was canceled.

Spartans fall in rain-shortened match

Kerr-Vance fell to Rocky Mount Academy 6-0 Tuesday in a rain-shortened tennis match.

KVA’s Taylor Abbott and William Parish were up 4-1 in doubles action before rain stopped play.

The Spartans (2-13, 0-8 Eastern Plains Independent Conference) visit Faith Christian Thursday.

KVA edged in league contests

Kerr-Vance posted a pair of close conference baseball losses Monday and Tuesday. The Spartans fell 5-4 to Halifax Academy on Monday before a 3-0 loss to Rocky Mount Academy on Tuesday.

Dustin Smith struck out eight batters for KVA Monday and allowed two earned runs.

Smith, Daniel Wilkerson, Damon Stevenson, Banks Conde, Wil Short, and Pierce Tooley each had hits for the Spartans against Halifax.
Daniel Wilkerson, Colby Wilkerson, Conde, and Jared Hicks posted hits on Tuesday.

Daniel Wilkerson finished with nine strikeouts against Rocky Mount Academy and allowed on earned run.

KVA returns to the diamond Thursday at Faith Christian.
