Southern fourth in Wells Fargo standings; Northern, Webb tie for fifth
Wells Fargo, along with the N.C. High School Athletic Association, has announced the standings in the conference cup competitions for the winter sports seasons.
Chapel Hill finished atop the standings for the 3-A Carolina Conference, followed by Cardinal Gibbons, Orange, Southern Vance, Northern Vance, and J.F. Webb.
Chapel Hill won titles in girls basketball, girls swimming and a share of a title in boys basketball. The Tigers also had second-place finishes in wrestling and boys swimming.
Corinth Holders was first in the 2-A Northern Carolina Conference, followed by Roanoke Rapids, Franklinton, Bunn, Louisburg, North Johnston, Warren County, and Northwest Halifax.
Corinth Holders recorded top finishes in boys basketball, wrestling and boys and girls swimming.
The Wells Fargo Cup recognizes high schools that achieve the best overall interscholastic athletic performance within each of the state’s four classifications and the Wells Fargo Conference Cup honors schools within individual conferences.
In most conferences, points are awarded based on participation and standings in league play.
