Local Roundup: Wilkerson tosses perfect game for Spartans

Freshman Daniel Wilkerson threw a perfect game Tuesday for Kerr-Vance, tallying seven strikeouts in a 12-0, five-inning win over Grace Christian of Raleigh.

KVA head coach Todd Wilkerson said Daniel did a good job of hitting his spots and worked in his off-speed pitches well.

“The team as a whole showed up with a little more intensity and ready to play,” said Todd Wilkerson.

Daniel Wilkerson was also 1-for-2 at the plate.

Adam Medlin, Channie Renn and Dustin Smith each had two hits for the Spartans and Wyatt Evans, Lane Humphries and Tyson Carrier each logged a base hit.

KVA hosts Halifax Academy Thursday.

Northern, Webb split in track meet

The Northern Vance boys track team scored an 88-42 win at J.F. Webb Tuesday while the Warrior girls downed the Vikings 27-10.

All four of Northern’s boys relay teams won.

Individual boys winners for the Vikings were Tyrrick Bullock (100 meters, 200 meters) Vincent Ragland (110-meter hurdles, 300-meter hurdles), Robert Ellis (shot put), Jaleel Seward (long jump), and Scott Hamrick (3200 meters).

Bullock posted a regional qualifying time in the 100.

A’Neicia Wilkerson won the high jump and long jump for Northern’s girls and Sarah Robinson took the 100 and 300-meter hurdles. Amanda Moseley won the 800 meters.

Northern visits Orange April 9.

Spartan soccer records first win

Bryles Cutts scored twice and Kerr-Vance defeated Cary Christian 3-0 Tuesday for its first win of the season.

Cutts scored the first and third goals for the Spartans. Catherine Kilian assisted on the first and Isabelle Goodwin set up the third.

Kilian scored the second goal on an assist from Goodwin.

The Spartans host Halifax Academy Thursday.

JV Spartans top Wilson Christian

The Kerr-Vance junior varsity soccer team won 2-1 over Wilson Christian Tuesday.

Nicole Dunkley and Riley Short had the goals for the Spartans.

KVA tennis falls to Grace of Raleigh

Kerr-Vance fell 8-1 to Grace Christian of Raleigh Tuesday.

The Spartans face St. David’s Friday.
